When it’s raining and you have children, you can’t just send them outside to play. On these days, any fun activities for kids are going to be limited to doing something inside, and if you can be involved, so much the better.
So here are five rainy day activities for kids that everyone can be involved in, and that you’ll love just as much as them.
Cooking/Baking — Every kid loves to get involved with what they eat, from making their own peanut butter and jelly sandwich to baking cupcakes or making a pizza. There are so many ideas and easy recipes that kids can do, like piling up the cheese on a grilled cheese sandwich, stirring up instant pudding or crunching up potato chips on a tuna casserole.
If you don’t want to cook but still want to make something yummy, how about frozen yogurt granola cups or banana s’mores? The recipes are endless, and so are the laughs and good times.
Arts and Crafts — What kid doesn’t like arts and crafts? As long as you have a paper and pen, it’s a start, but like cooking or baking, the list is almost endless.
For example, try string painting, making paper plate sun catchers, create a collage from newspapers of magazines, make animals and other objects with clay or Play-Doh, or paint rocks and leaves. The only thing that counts here is the imagination of you and your kids.
The Toy Box — Every kid has a toy box; it just goes with being a kid. When is the last time you got some toys out of the box and played? Depending upon what you have, you can make up a fantasy world all your own by dressing up, getting out the trucks and diggers, setting up the dollhouse or building things with Legos!
So go on and dig around in your kids’ toy box, find things to play with, let the kid come out in you, and it will be a lot of fun.
Board Games — Although this is the age of tablets, computers and the Internet, there is still something to say about board games. Classics like Candy Land, Trouble or Chutes and Ladders are fun for any kid of any age.
If you don’t have any games, make a day of it and search thrift stores. You can even stop for lunch or get a treat, and you’ll all be enjoying the time spent together.
Places to Go — There are always places to go on those rainy days that feature activities for kids. Your local museum has a lot of “hands on” things they can touch and explore.
Or how about the zoo? Kids love animals and you do too.
Even the library has books, videos and computer programs just for kids that can be used there or rented and brought home. Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean you have to stay home.
And of course, always think of Cool Beans Indoor Playground & Cafe when it’s raining or just too hot to be outside. It’s a kids’ indoor playground for those rainy days, parties, birthdays or just to get the kids, and their friends, out of the house.
Located in downtown Palm Beach at The Gardens, it’s easy to get to and easy to find. And remember, we only have two rules: wear socks and have fun! That’s Cool Beans!
